PROFICIENCIES New 2001 Proficiencies check them out here Any contestant for a proficiency award must be a member of their Federation and a ratified member of their Barefoot Division and their affiliated Federation, ie. contestant may not attempt any proficiencies until his membership to that Barefoot Division has been accepted by its committee. All contestants must wear approved life vests as defined in Rules C8.03,C8.04 Three attempts only on any one day may be made by a contestant for each proficiency. A fall as defined in Rule C13.02 at any time during an attempt immediately concludes the attempt.  Once skier has signified his readiness to commence an attempt, loss of rope concludes attempt.  The examiner may grant one additional attempt only if he considers that the contest fell through no fault of his own, but due to extenuating circumstances. Barefoot Skiing position is as defined rule C13.03 It is the responsibility of each contestant to provide a tow boat and driver.   However the examiner may act as the observer.

DEFINITIONS: When performing the variation, Flying Beach Start, contestant must perform a distinct movement towards an airborne position, land on the water and attain barefoot skiing position (or on one foot for one foot start).

FORWARD Beach Start Contestant, must start from a dry land position without the aid of skis or disc, be towed through the water and attain barefoot skiing position, such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Beach Start One Foot Contestant must start from a dry land position without the aid of skis or disc, be towed through the water and attain barefoot skiing position supported by one foot only: such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The foot that is to be raised must not touch the tow line at any time and must be clearly visible above the surface of the water.

Deepwater Start Contestant, without the aid of skis or disc, must be towed from a deepwater position through the water and attain barefoot skiing position, such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Deepwater Start One Foot Contestant, without the aid of skis or disc, must be towed from a deepwater position through the water and attain barefoot skiing position supported by one foot only, such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The foot that is to be raised must not touch the tow line at any time and must be clearly visible above the surface of the water.

Forwards Beach Start, Rope on Foot Contestant, without the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from a dry land position through the water with rope on foot, and attain barefoot skiing position.   Such position is to be held for 10 seconds and hands must not touch any portion of the towline at any time.

Forwards Deep Water Start, Rope on Foot Contestant, without the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from a deep water position through the water with rope on foot, and attain barefoot skiing position.   Such position is to be held for 10 seconds and hands must not touch any portion of the towline at any time.

Surface Jump Forwards Contestant, must attain forwards barefoot skiing position, and from this position perform a jump in which clear air is visible between his feet and the water surface.   The skier must immediately attain barefoot skiing position after this jump, such position is to be held for 10 seconds.

Wake Surface Jump Forwards Contestant must attain forwards barefoot skiing position, and from this position perform a jump from one side of wake to the other side of same wake, clear air is to be visible between his feet and the water surface.  The skier must immediately attain barefoot skiing position after this jump, such position to be held for 10 seconds.

One Foot Contestant must attain forwards barefoot skiing position supported entirely by one foot: such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  If in the examiners opinion the water conditions are such that spray obliterates his view for short periods any he does not have a clear 10 seconds view of the raised foot, he may order a re-run which may be allowed as an additional attempt to the three attempts permitted.

One Foot Reverse Contestants must perform One Foot proficiency on one foot for the required 10 second period and immediately perform the proficiency again for a further 10 second period supported by his opposite foot.

Pick Up Ski Contestant shall commence on a standard slalom ski and shall place one foot on the water retaining ski on his other foot,  he shall bend his knee and lift his ski so that the greater part of the ski is out of the water and then he shall remove the ski from his foot and attain barefoot skiing position.  The contestant is required to remain in the barefoot skiing position with the ski retained for a period of 10 seconds.

Rope on Toe Whilst skiing barefoot contestant must raise one foot and place it in an attachment such as a toestrap, release his hands completely from any portion of the tow line and handle(s) so that the tow line is held by his foot only and his weight is supported by his other foot: such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Rope on Toe Reverse Contestant must perform Rope on Toe proficiency for the required 10 second period on one foot and immediately perform the proficiency again for a further 10 second period supported by his opposite foot.

Side Slide Whilst barefooting on two feet contestant must release one hand from the handle and turn through a 90 degree angle so that the side of his body and the sides of his feet face the boat and he is drawn along in a definite and obvious side slide: such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Rope in Teeth (Two Feet) Whilst skiing barefoot contestant shall pull handle towards himself and place teeth piece in mouth and release his hands completely from any portion of the two line and handle(s); such position shall be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The 10 second period shall not run unless it is clearly visible that contestant's hands are released from the tow line and handle.  Maximum length of any attachment used as a teeth piece shall be 15cm.

Rope in Teeth (One Foot) Whilst skiing barefoot contestant shall pull handle towards himself and place teeth piece in mouth and raise one foot and release his hands completely from any portion of the tow line and handle(s); such position to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The 10 second period shall not run unless it is clearly visible BOTH that the contestants hands are released from the tow line and handle AND the foot is raised out of the water.   If in the examiner's opinion the water conditions are such that spray obliterates his view for short periods and he does not have a clear 10 second view of the contestant with foot raised and hands released from tow line, he may order a re-run which may be allowed as an additional attempt to the three attempts permitted.  maximum length of any attachment used as a teeth piece shall be 15 cm.

Rope in Teeth One Foot Reverse Contestant must perform Rope in Teeth One Foot proficiency for the required 10 second period on one foot and immediately perform the proficiency again for a further 10 second period supported by his opposite foot.

Rope on Neck (Two Foot) Whilst skiing barefoot contestant shall pull handle towards himself and place handle behind his neck so that his head is in the vee formed by the handle and the tow line and release his hands completely from any portion of the tow line and handle(s); such position shall be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The 10 second period shall not run unless it is clearly visible that contestant's hands are released from the tow line and handle.   Contestant's handle shall be of minimum length of 38cm and meet all the specifications of the trick bar.

Rope on Neck (One Foot) Whilst skiing barefoot contestant shall pull handle towards himself and place handle behind his neck so that his head is in the vee formed by the handle and the tow line and raise one foot and release his hands completely from any portion of the tow line and handle(s); such position shall be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The 10 second period shall not run unless it is clearly visible BOTH that the contestant's hands are released from the tow line and handle AND the foot is raised out of the water.  If in the examiner's opinion the water conditions are such that spray obliterates his view for short periods and he does not have a clear 10 second view of the contestant with foot raised and hands released from tow line, he may order a re-run which may  be allowed as an additional attempt to the three attempts permitted.  Contestant's handle shall be of minimum length of 38cm and meet all specifications of a trick bar.  This proficiency must be performed as a separate proficiency to Rope on Neck.

Rope on Neck One Foot Reverse Contestant must perform Rope on Neck One Foot proficiency for the required 10 second period on one foot and immediately perform the proficiency again for a further 10 second period supported by his opposite foot.

Wake Slalom Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position and within a 10 second period must cross the wake completely three times.

Wake Slalom One Foot Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position and within a 10 second period must cross the wake completely three times supported by one foot .If in the examiner's opinion the water conditions are such that spray obliterates his view for short periods and he does not have a clear view of the contestant with foot raised while crossing the wake, he may order a re-run which may  be allowed as an additional attempt to the three attempts permitted.

BACKWARDS Backwards Contestants must attain backwards barefoot skiing position, such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Backwards Beach Start Contestant, without the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from a dry land position through the water on his stomach and attain backwards barefoot skiing position; such position to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  When performing the variation, flying beach start backwards, contestant must either face the boat or turn back to boat, the rope at no time being placed between legs, and perform a distinct movement towards an air borne position, land on the water and ultimately attain backwards barefoot skiing position, such position to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Backwards Deepwater Start Contestant, without the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from a deepwater position on his stomach through the water and attain backwards barefoot skiing position; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Backwards One Foot Contestant must step off a ski and attain backwards barefoot skiing position supported by one foot only; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Backwards One Foot Reverse Contestant must perform Backwards One Foot proficiency for the required 10 second period on one foot and immediately perform the proficiency again for a further 10 second period supported by his opposite foot.

Backwards Surface Jump Contestant, must attain backwards barefoot skiing position, and from this position perform a jump in which clear air is visible between his feet and the water surface.   The skier must immediately attain backwards barefoot skiing position after this jump, such position is to be held for 10 seconds.

Backwards Wake Surface Jump Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position, and from this position perform a jump from one side of wake to the other side of same wake, clear air is to be visible between his feet and the water surface.  The skier must immediately attain backwards barefoot skiing position after this jump, such position to be held for 10 seconds.

Backwards Rope on Foot Contestant, while skiing barefoot backwards, must raise one foot and place it in an attachment such as a toestrap and release his hands completely from any portion of the towline and handle(s) so that the tow line is held by his foot only and he is skiing barefoot backwards with his weight supported by his other foot; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Backwards Rope on Foot Reverse Contestant must perform Backwards Rope on Foot proficiency for the required 10 second period on one foot and immediately perform the proficiency again for a further 10 second period supported by his opposite foot.

Backwards Wake Slalom Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position and within a 10 second period must cross the wake completely three times.

Backwards Wake Slalom One Foot Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position and within a 10 second period must cross the wake completely three times supported by one foot .If in the examiner's opinion the water conditions are such that spray obliterates his view for short periods and he does not have a clear view of the contestant with foot raised while crossing the wake, he may order a re-run which may  be allowed as an additional attempt to the three attempts permitted.

Backwards Tumbleturn Contestant, without the aid of skis or other equipment, and without the rope passing between the legs, must be towed from a position on his back, turn on to his stomach, and from this position make one definite movement with one foot passing underneath the rope, to twist backwards (feet towards the boat) and must obtain backwards barefoot skiing position; such position to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  Pulling rope in towards body shall not be considered as a movement to twist backwards.

Backwards Beach Start, Rope on Foot The contestant, without the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from a dry land position through the water on his stomach with rope on foot, and attain backwards barefoot skiing position; such position is to be held for 10 seconds and hands must not touch any portion of the towline at any time.

Backwards Deep Water Start, Rope on Foot The contestant, without the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from a deep water position through the water on his stomach with rope on foot, and attain backwards barefoot position; such position is to be held for 10 seconds and hands must not touch any portion of the towline at any time.

Backwards Beach Start One Foot Contestant, with out the aid of skis or equipment, must be towed from dry land position through the water on his stomach and attain backwards barefoot skiing position supported by one foot only, such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The foot that is to be raised must not touch the tow line any any time and must be clearly visible above the surface of the water.  When performing the variation Backwards Flying Beach Start, contestant must either face the boat or turn back to boat, the rope at no time being placed between legs and perform a distinct movement towards an airborne position, land on the water and ultimately attain backwards barefoot skiing position, such position to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

INSTANTANEOUS

Just Off Disc Contestant must ride a disc and jump off the disc on to the water and immediately attain barefoot skiing position; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Jump Out of Two Contestant must ride two skis with regular foot bindings fitting snugly to his feet and jump out of the bindings on to the water and immediately attain barefoot skiing position; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The 10 second period shall not run unless the contest's weight is supported entirely by his feet.

180 Turn, Back to Front Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position and in a clear continuous movement negotiate a 180 turn to the forward barefoot skiing position; such forward position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

180 Turn, Front to Back Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position (forwards) and in a continuous clear movement negotiate a 180 turn to the backwards barefoot skiing position; such backwards position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

180 Turn Back to Front One Foot Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position, supported entirely by one foot and in a clear continuous movement, negotiate a 180 turn to the forward barefoot one foot skiing position, such forward  position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds. (Barefoot position must not be lost throughout trick).

180 Turn Front to Back One Foot Contestant must attain forwards barefoot skiing position, supported entirely by one foot and in a continuous, clear movement, negotiate a 180 turn to the backwards one foot skiing position, such backwards position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds. (Barefoot position must not be lost throughout the trick).

Step Over 180 Back to Front Whilst skiing in backwards barefoot position, the skier grasps the handle between legs (handle actually behind skier) and with a clear movement steps over line to forward barefoot position.  This position to be held 10 seconds.

Step Over 180 Front to Back Whilst skiing in forwards barefoot position, the skier,

360 Turn Contestant shall commence in forward barefoot skiing position, execute a continuous turn through 360 returning to forward barefoot position; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Wake 360 Turn Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position and in a continuous clear movement negotiate a 360 turn from one wake to the other side of same wake.  Air to be visible under the skiers feet and body whilst clearing wake to a forwards barefoot skiing position.  This position to be held for 10 seconds.

Somersault Contestant, from barefoot skiing position, shall somersault forwards and attain barefoot skiing position immediately.  The somersault shall be performed so that it complies with ruleC16.12j  Such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  The 10 second period shall not run unless the contestant's weight is supported entirely by his feet.

Tumbleturn Contestant without the aid of skis or other equipment, must be towed from a position on his stomach, turn on to his back and from this position make one definite movement to twist forward and must attain barefoot skiing position; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.  Pulling rope in towards body shall not be considered as a movement to twist forward.

Tumbleturn Reverse Contestant shall roll from forward barefoot skiing position over one shoulder on to his back on the water and from this position make one definite movement to twist forward and must attain barefoot skiing position for a period of 10 seconds.  He shall then immediately roll over his opposite shoulder and perform another tumbleturn as described above effecting all movements in the reverse direction to the first tumbleturn and attain barefoot skiing position for a period of 10 seconds.  Pulling rope in towards body shall not be considered as a movement to twist forward.

Knees to Feet Contestant must ski on his knees for a short interval and in one definite movement bring his feet forward and then attain barefoot skiing position; such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Knees to Feet Reverse Contestant must perform Knees to Feet for the required 10 second period and immediately, with one definite movement, from barefoot skiing position, must perform the reverse, ie, feet back to knees.  Contestant must remain in knee skiing position for a further period of 10 seconds.

Wake 180 Turn, Back to Front Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position and in a continuous clear movement negotiate a 180 turn from one side of wake to other side of same wake, air to be visible under the skier's feet and body whilst clearing wake to a forward barefoot skiing position, this position to be held for 10 seconds.

Wake 180 Turn, Front to Back Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position and in a continuous clear movement negotiate a 180 turn from one side of wake to other side of same wake, air to be visible under the skier's feet and body whilst clearing wake to a backward barefoot skiing position, this position to be held for 10 seconds.

Rope on Toe, 180 Front to Back Contestant whilst skiing in barefoot skiing position, the skier attains rope on toe position and In a continuous clear movement negotiate a 180 turn to the backwards rope on foot position.  Such position to be held for a period of 10 seconds.

Rope on Toe, 180 Back to Front Contestant while skiing in backwards barefoot position, skier attains backwards rope on foot and in a continuous clear movement negotiate a 180 turn to the forwards rope on toe position, such position to beheld for a period of 10 seconds.

Golden Triple Contestant must perform proficiencies for Beach Start, Deepwater Start and Backwards from five attempts overall on the one day.  Two unsuccessful attempts overall are permitted.

Jump Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position, negotiate the barefoot jump and regain barefoot skiing position, such position is to be held for a period of 10 seconds.   The 10 second period shall not run unless the contestant is supported by his feet only.  A tumble turn shall not be executed during an attempt at the Jump proficiency. Before obtaining thier Jump proficiency they must have a Jump off dics or jump out of two, One foot, Wake slalom, Tumble turn and Rope on toe proficiencies.

Forwards Masters Contestant must attain barefoot skiing position, such position is to be held for 10 minutes.

Backwards Masters Contestant must attain backwards barefoot skiing position, such position is to be held for 10 minutes [/html]
