Second tournament of the year done and dusted! As per usual the Waikato crew put on a fantastic event on Lake Karapiro.
With glassy conditions over the Saturday and Sunday our skiers were able to put their best foot forward and throw down some epic scores. To kick the tournament off young James McGuire set the pace in Junior boys with a massive new PB of 7.63pts. This was followed up with Georgia Groen equaling the NZ record with a score of 16.8pts.
In the final round of the slalom event Will Leigh and Bevan Kelly tied first place and were forced into a ski off for the gold medal. Will pulled it off and scored a massive 16.2 pts, breaking into 16 club for the very first time.
In the Trick event competition was tight for our Junior girls. With 5 girls skiing in this division we saw the girl inspire each other to try new starts and tricks.. Seeing multiple PBs by the end of the competition. The Senior men's division was also highly contended with new comers Brent Wright and Matt Slow coming within 150pts of the top spot in the field of 6.
With a newly painted jump we saw the phenom of 61 year old Fred Groen out fly his son Ryan Groen for the first time. Ryan Groen went the distance of 25.8m but was unable to land, giving William Leigh the Gold medal with a 22.4m Jump.
A huge thank you to all our officials, boat owners (Leighs and Fishers), and of course the most important - our Cafe crew led by Gogs Mathis, where would we be without coffee and pies! YUM
